Don’t Lay Down a Lily For Me If I Die

Don’t lay a lily for me

It’s silly to lay down flowers that fade

Don’t lay a lily for me

don’t lay it in a Goodwill Donation-vase

you have no time to polish

Don’t lay a lily for me

don’t stick the stem in a soilless soulless pint of water

Don’t lay a lily for me

Because you won’t sing to the lily daily

Don’t lay a lily for me

unless you intend to smother my mount and neighbors with a field

that will benefit the bees

Don’t lay a lily for me

You might have created the world that placed me in the ground

Don’t lay a lily for me

Nothing came from your sweet-nothings when I was breathing

Don’t lay a lily for me

and leave it to fade.

Don’t lay a lily for me

it will suffocate as I did.
